Where Will Myles Garrett end up after Trade Request?

NFL

Browns DE Myles Garrett

The week before the Super Bowl, Browns defensive superstar Myles Garrett requested a trade from the team due to their disappointing 2024 season. Garrett previously met with the team about their plans for the future, but that did not stop him from requesting a trade. Browns GM Andrew Berry has been adamant about not trading Garrett. Berry reiterated the team's stance and confirmed it has not changed while answering questions from the press at the scouting combine. However, in the game we love, football, the unthinkable occurs, and superstars find their way out of situations they do not want to be a part of. The chances of a player like Myles Garrett, who is a four-time All-Pro, six-time Pro Bowler, and former NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2023, being available on the market is a rarity. So, in light of the rumors and speculation on his departure, here are three of the best and most realistic landing spots for the former defensive player of the year:

Honorable Mentions:

Two teams I left out but could land Garrett are the Dallas Cowboys and Chicago Bears. Garrett grew up a Cowboys fan and made a video publicly pleading to the Cowboys to draft him. He went first overall to the Browns but now could be the time to reunite the player with his hometown team. It could help Dallas convince Micah Parsons to sign a long-term extension and would form a formidable duo in Garrett and Parsons. Reminiscint to the Bears-Khalil Mack trade, Chicago could land a huge piece to anchor down their defense. Although they are developing a young quarterback and should focus on building him an offensive line, a trade for Garrett would be tremendous. Garrett next to Montez Sweat would make for an interesting duo. But these are the teams with the best chances at landing Myles Garrett?

4. Buffalo Bills

The Bills would tremendously benefit from this addition, and I'm sure they will make a strong push for Garrett. However, I can't see the Browns trading the most prominent star they've had in recent history to a team inside of their conference. It wouldn't make sense to do that. The Bills desperately need a player of the caliber of Myles Garrett if they want to beat the Chiefs. Although they need more offensive weapons for QB Josh Allen, the best way to beat Patrick Mahomes is to pressure him and collapse the pocket. This move would be great, but I find it hard to see that Cleveland would do this unless they were offered a ransom.

3. Detroit Lions

With former defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn leaving to take the Jets head coaching job and Aidan Hutchinson returning from a gruesome leg injury, the Lions defense has an interesting season ahead. The Lions new DC Kelvin Sheppard quickly climbed up the ranks in Detroit and will now serve as defensive coordinator. His transition could be positive or negative; however, adding Myles Garrett could make his job much easier. It can also make Aidan Hutchinson's return from injury easier, as he does not have to carry so much of the load as the top star on defense. With both coordinators leaving for head coaching jobs, this season will be filled with challenges for Detroit. There were reports of the Lions trying to add a player of Garrett's caliber at last season's trade deadline, and I wouldn't be surprised if they make a push again. Adding Myles Garrett would make much sense and make the transitions for the organization easier.

2. Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles trading for Myles Garrett should be everybody's worst nightmare. There were rumors that Eagles GM Howie Roseman is looking to "jump" the Commanders and trade for Garrett. Adding Garrett to a defending champion Philadelphia Eagles defense would be dangerous. It's as simple as that. Putting him next to the likes of Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, and Nakobe Dean would put together a ferocious defensive line. With the Eagles cutting CB Darius Slay Jr., the Eagles CB room is smaller. Although Slay has regressed, the Eagles could replace his star power with Garrett. With this move, they solidify their chances of repeating next season.

1. Washington Commanders

This pairing would be a match made in heaven. The Commanders are coming off an NFC championship appearance and are looking to build on the core they have now. With Jayden Daniels solidifying himself as the franchise quarterback for years to come, that should instantly make this an attractive landing spot for Garrett. Especially with the coaching staff being led by great defensive mind Dan Quinn and Kliff Kingsbury leading the offense, it proves this franchise has all its ducks in a row. The Commanders are missing a big piece in their defense, specifically their pass rush. With Jonathan Allen seemingly on the way out with his name swirling in trade rumors, the Commanders need someone to anchor the defense. Myles Garrett could be perfect for this.

However, with the recent acquisition of WR Deebo Samuel, will the Commanders be willing to make another big trade? I'm sure they will. Garrett could be the monster they need on defense. Adding Garrett would best impact this team and would be a great fit.
