The Weirdest 2025 Men’s Royal Rumble Ending: Jey Uso Wins?
The hype surrounding the 2025 Royal Rumble was enormous. It was being marketed as the biggest men's royal rumble, with wrestlers like Roman Reigns, CM Punk, John Cena, and others being announced to participate. And that was besides all the rumors and speculations of returns and debuts. However, the men's rumble seemingly would be the culmination of a 20+ year-long career for John Cena and begin the road to his 17th record-breaking World Championship Reign. That was until the weirdest booking decision in recent royal rumble history happened:
Most expected a final four of Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, CM Punk, and John Cena, but instead, we received a final three of John Cena, Logan Paul, and Jey Uso? This all resulted after Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, and CM Punk eliminated each other, which seems like it'll lead to a match at WrestleMania. With those three being eliminated, it never felt more obvious that John Cena was going to WrestleMania's main event to win his record-breaking 17th world championship. It was going to be a perfect way to end the night, after the great event filled with thrilling moments, it would set up the story we all wanted: Cena's last run as champ. However, Paul "Triple H" Levesque had other ideas. After Logan Paul was eliminated by John Cena, Uso and Cena began to tee off. The two had an incredible showing, with many "almost eliminated" moves executed. Fans genuinely started to worry: was Cena about to lose? After a reversed attitude adjustment, Jey Uso pushed John Cena off the side of the ring, and Cena was eliminated. Uso would win the rumble in shocking fashion, and Cena would congratulate him. Uso is now set to face World Champion Gunther at WrestleMania.
Cena's loss left many fans disappointed and shocked. If Cena were to lose, many thought it would be to a wrestler who would set up a major match at WrestleMania, not Uso vs. Gunther for the World Championship part two. Uso had recently lost to Gunther a week before the rumble for the championship. That would've been a perfect time to crown Uso as the World Champion, not in a rematch on the year's biggest event. Does Uso deserve it? 100%, he an excellent talent and will certainly be a face of the WWE. His meteoric rise is one that will be studied one day. However, this is NOT a main event for WrestleMania. Cena vs. Gunther was a match everybody wanted.
In the post-match conference, Cena announced he'd be leaving for Hungary to film a movie but would be back to be in the Elimination Chamber match. He said that the 17th world championship is now his goal. For a retirement tour, it sucks to barely see Cena due to his busy schedule, but it could've been a reason why Triple H decided Uso would win the Rumble. And if that's the case, then I understand his decision. However, is it a given that Cena will win the Chamber and face Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania? That is obviously the big match, but many have speculated about his chances. What if he lost and forced his way into a triple threat against Uso and Gunther? There are many avenues that Triple H can take to salvage this WrestleMania. However, I fully expect Cena to NOT win the championship at WrestleMania. Triple H is big on "the chase" wrestlers embark on to win the championship. We recently saw it with Cody Rhodes and "The Story," I predict we'll likely see it again.
With all that being said, this WrestleMania card looks weak. Charlotte just jogging into a WrestleMania championship match after being on the shelf for so long is extremely disappointing. So many other young wrestlers deserved that spotlight since they've been working their hardest in Charlotte's absence. She'll face Tiffany Stratton at WrestleMania for the WWE Women's Championship, and it's disappointing to see this. Charlotte is a great talent, but all her matches cannot be for the championship. Instead of earning the big match, she waltz right into it. I can't imagine that is fairing well in the locker room.
Lots of work to do, Mr. Levesque.
