What happened to Bryan danielson? AEW Wrestledream RECAp

The End Of An Era.

What a close to a great pro wrestling event. The main event left many jaws dropping, and many minds left to ponder on what just transpired. However, there were many great matches and returns before the main event between Jon Moxley and AEW World Champion Bryan Danielson.

The night started with "face" Jay White and "heel" Hangman Adam Page teeing off in a highly anticipated match. Both are great competitors, and the roles are usually reversed with Jay White as the heel, but that was not the case. Jay White defeated Hangman, and could we see him enter the world title picture?

Next, we saw the AEW Women's World Champion, Mariah May, defend her title against Willow Nightingale. Mariah has had a very lackluster title run. She had much hype going into the reign with the win over her former mentor, Toni Storm, but she has slowed down. I was hoping for Willow Nightingale to take the win and finally capture the top gold, or at least a Toni Storm return, but nothing happened. Mariah May retained her championship.

Jack Perry defended his TNT Championship against Katsuyori Shibata, and I was hoping for an upset win for Shibata to win the TNT Championship. Shibata has been on a hot streak with this gimmick of using Google Translate to speak. He became a very likable character, but nonetheless, the Elite member, Jack Perry, defeated him and retained his title. Time is running out for Jack Perry; his gimmick got stale quickly.

We were followed up with the return of MJF, he came in to attack Daniel Garcia after he defended Shibata from a post-match attack from Jack Perry. Many attacks. He’s back from filming Happy Gilmore 2 and has a lot on his mind. After he attacked Garcia, ADAM COLE came out to defend him. This segment made little sense due to the fact that Cole did MJF dirty, as he was the heel in their feud. Seems like AEW is trying to hit us with the Will Smith Men In Black memory deletion. However, both stars are back.

Will Ospreay defended his AEW International Championship against former stablemate Konosuke Takeshita and newly-signed Ricochet in a triple-threat match. It was easily the match of the night as all three men left it all in the ring. Takeshita defeated Ospreay due to interference as Don Callis raided him and Ospreay's best friend Kyle Fletcher hit him with a screwdriver. It was shocking, but Takeshita would take the championship off Ospreay. It was an excellent finish.

Hologram defeated the Beast Mortos, 2-1, in an underwhelming two out three falls match. Following was Brody King vs. Darby Allen, and Darby would defeat him.

The Young Bucks, Matthew, and Nicholas Jackson defended their AEW World Tag Team championships against Private Party in a great match until the finish. The Bucks would go over on the young tag team in an underwhelming finish. This "EVP" gimmick is stale, allowing the Bucks to put themselves over and bury young talent. There was reportedly a strong push to have Private Party go over, as they should've, but it was vetoed. Bucks win.

Another unnecessary match, ROH World Champion Mark Briscoe, defending his championship against "THE LEARNING TREE" Chris Jericho. Briscoe went over as the classic babyface.

In the mix of the previous matches, former AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland would return and choose to stick with Prince Nana as his manager as opposed to MVP. He got into an encounter with Shelton Benjamin in the segment. It was a great promo and only built anticipation for what MVP has in store. Will Bobby Lashley come to AEW and align himself with MVP and Shelton Benjamin… Hurt Business 2.0?

The Main Event was one that I didn't see coming, but it makes sense. "The American Dragon" Bryan Danielson defended his AEW World Championship against Jon Moxley, stipulating that he'll retire whenever Danielson loses his title. He didn't just get put into retirement, but it seemed he had been killed off. They practically attempted murder on the legend. Moxley pinned him 1-2-3, and the entire arena went quiet, as when the Undertaker's streak ended in WrestleMania 30. An attack by PAC and Claudio Castagnoli followed it up. Wheeler Yuta and Darby Allen would run down to the ring in defense of Danielson until Yuta betrayed him and put a bag over Danielson's head to suffocate him. It was unexpected, and Darby was forced to watch as he was held back. They continued to attack Danielson, even putting his head in a chair and stepping on his neck. It was a vicious ending to Danielson's career in AEW, just like he wanted to go. He requested to go out against Moxley, and only time will tell if this is indeed the end for him or if he will return as the triumphant babyface. Moxley now leads the company with the championship and has officially "taken" back" the company. I'm still confused about what the message his stable is trying to tell… is Shane McMahon behind it?
