Lindor with the Go-Ahead Homer: Mets into Playoffs
The Mets will return to the postseason after a crucial victory against the Atlanta Braves in game one of Monday’s doubleheader. It looked bleak at first when Atlanta took a commanding 3-0 lead. However, the Mets turned it up in the eighth and decided they would decide their fate when they scored six runs in one inning. It was unreal, 6-3. Yet, the game wasn’t over, and Atlanta made that evident because the pitching relief didn’t make the game easy. RHP Phil Maton gave up two runs, and they decided to bring in closer Edwin Diaz for five outs. He couldn’t locate the strike zone, and his fastball was a bit delayed, and he gave up the lead, 7-6. That was until the ninth inning, and (could be) MVP Francisco Lindor delivered for the New York Mets with a go-ahead two-run blast. Diaz came in for the ninth and stomped on Atlanta to bring home the win. The second game wasn’t as pretty as the Mets never showed up. Atlanta made it into the playoffs with a 3-0 win. And now, the Mets will face the Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Wild Card round.
The Mets matched up poorly with the Brewers this regular season, going 1-5. The Mets failed to score more than one run in three of those losses. It is clear that they go into this one as underdogs, and that is perfectly fine. October isn’t a reflection of the regular season; many teams in the past have made that evident. The Mets enter this one with significant momentum after yesterday’s electrifying victory. They recently played against the Brewers this weekend and went 1-2. The batting needs to show up, and guys like 1B Pete Alonso and JD Martinez need to get into that fiery long-ball homerun mode if the Mets want a deep postseason run. The Jeff McNeil injury sucks, but the Mets looked good, and I can’t wait to see them this postseason. I have them taking down the Brewers in three games; good luck to the Mets faithful.
