Will Carti Drop "I AM MUSIC" Before the End of 2024?
With the releases of hit singles like "2024" and so many others, Playboi Carti has yet again built up a great album rollout. The question is, will his fans see the payoff of the highly anticipated "I AM MUSIC" album. He began the rollout in April of 2022 with an interview stating that the next album would be named Music, and that's all he knew. We didn't hear much for roughly two years. That was until December of 2023 when he teased the release of various singles and a possible album. He went on to release three singles throughout the month of December on Instagram, and each time, they'd instantly take over social media. Fans could not believe the run that Playboi Carti was on. He hadn't released music this rampant at this rate since 2020 when he debuted a new sound in his 3rd studio album, "Whole Lotta Red."
At the time, that album was considered a flop, as fans would call it "Whole Lotta Mid," calling it mediocre. However, years later, it is considered a classic due to the effect that it has had on the industry. It gave birth to the "rap, punk, rock" sound that rappers like Ken Carson, Destroy Lonely and many others adopted. He expanded on that sound with this new album rollout, and fans loved it. Each week, fans would anticipate and question.. "will Carti drop again?" He continued his releases with collaborations with Travis Scott and even appeared on Ye's "Vultures" album. After March, he began to slow down and went into darkness. That was until he appeared on various other projects like Metro Boomin' and Future's "We Don't Trust You," Ye's "Vultures 2," and a collaboration with Camilla Cabello. 2024 seemed like the year that Carti would return and prove his doubters wrong. However, we now sit here in October with countless singles being released and features, including Playboi Carti, without the "I AM MUSIC" album being released. It is almost as if Carti released his album through these singles, and there may be nothing left. Carti recently released 2 singles in September, "All Red" and "Timeless ft. The Weeknd," which has proven that his momentum has not slowed down. His fans continue to patiently wait. Carti is set to perform at Rolling Loud in December, so it seems as if it is inevitable we get more teases. Merchandise has been sold in promotion for this album, and countless amount of teased dates have passed, yet we are still here with no album.
Carti followed a similar pattern in 2020 in promoting his "Whole Lotta Red" album, when he surprised the world on Christmas Day and considered himself Santa with the album release. Many figured it would be released on his birthday as it landed on a Friday the 13th, but he only released a single. I can personally see an October, likely day after Halloween release, but only one person knows when this album will be released. That person's name is Jordan Carter, aka Playboi Carti. He has taken many pages from his close friend and mentor Ye's book on making the audience anticipate an album. However, there are so many repercussions for an album rollout like this. It will get hate if it isn't up to par with the rest of discography and what he has recently released. It will get a lot of hate, as in his last album. He was lucky it grew on people; he needs another classic here, or who knows where Carti stands a year from now. Could the rap rock star be the reason for his downfall, or will he come out as a genius and gift people another hit album? Only time will tell…
