The Curse Continues. Jets lose on MNF to Buffalo, 23-20
6 Tri-State area teams played on Monday. The Yankees, Mets, Jets, Devils, Rangers and Islanders. Every team won besides the Jets.
For every big game, the Jets produce an even bigger loss. There are no excuses for the disappointment that Monday Night Football was for this franchise. It was expected to be one of the most critical games in the team's history, but they lost. Since 2020, teams have gone 6-3 the following game after firing their head coach. That is now 6-4, with the Jets losing on Monday Night, even with a new head coach and the same penalties and problems.
The stadium was electric, with the "Classic" jerseys from 1969 being worn. The whole stadium had the old Jets logo, and many celebrities were in attendance, including 50 Cent. New York fans went into the game with smiles after seeing the Mets take down the Dodgers in game two of the NLCS and the Yankees pitcher Carlos Rodon shutting down the Guardians in the first inning. It would continue as the Jets scored a field goal to start the game, Jets 3-0. However, none of that mattered, as the Jets' run defense was still poor. They ran up and down for a touchdown, Bills 7-3. The Jets wouldn't go quietly and retaliate with a Wilson-Rodgers TD, Jets 10-7. Both offenses would punt on following drives, but Buffalo capitalized on the Jets' undisciplined tendencies as they committed a defense pass interference that gave Buffalo a new set of downs to score. They went in for a touchdown but a missed PAT, Bills 13-10. Buffalo would score again after terrible penalties committed and called against the Jets, Bills 20-10. The Jets would get the ball back with 21 seconds before halftime, and it looked bleak for Gang Green. Checkdown after checkdown, it didn't look like we'd even get a field goal. That was until the Jets sent all receivers deep for a Hail Mary, and reminiscent of his time in Green Bay, Aaron Rodgers did it once again and connected with WR Allen Lazard for a touchdown, 20-17. Nobody thought it was a touchdown; every fan did not want to get their hopes up…besides me. I knew it was a touchdown, Aaron Rodgers baby! I had to let the Jets fan out and return to the unbiased summary.
The Jets are loaded with momentum going into the second half, so it looks possible for a comeback. Buffalo would miss a field goal, and the Jets would have a chance to take it. On the next drive, they were marching downfield. Yet, they could not get the ball in the end zone and settled for a field goal, 20-20. The Jets defense would lock in, and the offense would have many opportunities to win this one. However, the moment was too big, and the Jets kept committing penalties in the red zone. They lost a touchdown due to a penalty and had to rely on Greg Zuerlein to make a field goal. He missed both on back-to-back possessions. The worst part was that every time he'd line up for the snap, the wind always picked up. This team may actually be cursed. Of course, Buffalo didn't have this problem again and nailed their field goal, Bills 23-20. The Jets got the ball back and drove downfield, but again, an Aaron Rodgers to Mike Williams interception happened and essentially ended the game and broke Jets fan's hearts yet again. Buffalo would get the ball back and almost punted it until Michael Clemons fell for a Josh Allen juke move, allowing him to get the first down and the game over.
This game was so winnable, and this team should be in first place. The refereeing was horrible; ironically, the lead referee graduated from the University of Buffalo. Peculiar. However, this team continues to play very undisciplined. They are making the same mistakes. The offense did look much better, but that means little when every play you make comes back due to a penalty. It was a terrible game. Sunday Night Football is next in Pittsburgh. The season is still very salvageable, but every game is now a must-win. This team continues to make this season harder and more complicated to watch. J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS…
