The Jets spook Houston on TNF, Keep season alive with win, 21-13
It's NOT OVER UNTIL IT'S OVER. The New York Jets have arrived and defeated the Houston Texans on Thursday Night Football: Halloween Edition at MetLife Stadium, 21-13. It was an incredible win for the Jets, desperately needed for the team and their morale. Although the win, the first quarter was still the worst quarter I've seen this team play in person this season. It was horrible. They forced a fumble from the Texans and wasted the possession. Then the Jets would go downfield, and rookie WR Malachi Corley would finally get a shot to play. They'd feed him a jet sweep, and he'd walk into the endzone for his first touchdown! We thought. He celebrated and released the ball too early, and it was ruled a touchback, laughing out loud. The Texans played just as bad, though, and it took until the second quarter for the first score. Texans drove downfield for a touchdown, 7-0. Then Houston attempted a field goal, and THEY MISSED. It looked like the Jets had a chance going into halftime.
The Jets came out of halftime like a wrecking ball; WR Garrett Wilson had a hell of a catch for a touchdown, which would be only the first one of the night, 7-7. Houston would respond with a field goal, 10-7. The Jets marched downfield, but penalties continued to make the drive difficult. On a 3rd and 19, the Jets were in the red zone and needed something big. Rodgers saw Wilson in the endzone and threw up a dime. Wilson caught it in a Jordan-esque fashion. It was easily a candidate for catch of the year and play of the year, touchdown Jets, 14-10. Houston went downfield, thanks to a beautiful dime from CJ Stroud. Houston would make a field goal, but the Jets allowed them to gain a whole new set of downs after an unnecessary roughness penalty. Houston ended up attempting the kick again, but the kicker missed. I kept screaming that it was harder to make it the second time, and I was proven right. The Jets would seal the game with a Rodgers to Davante touchdown, 21-10. Houston would score a late field goal, but it would be too late. The game would be over, 21-13.
Is it ridiculous to say there's a chance? Do you believe in miracles? The Jets should very well be 5-4 or 6-3, but they find themselves in a 3-6 hole. However, the AFC isn't full of undefeated teams, and this team may have a chance. The optimism is there. They face the Arizona Cardinals on the road next week, and Call Of Duty just released. Will the Kyler Murray Call of Duty curse continue? The player is a big fan of the game, which has always affected his quality of play; this isn't a joke. The playoffs begin now. The Jets can't lose more than a game or two. And I'd reserve that for the Rams and Miami/Buffalo. It's not over yet. The stadium was electric, and I was lucky enough to lead the "Shin is In!" chant. It's an incredible moment, and there's nothing else to say besides that the Jets are still in. The only question is, will they build on this momentum?
Only time will tell. Let's take down the Cardinals next…
